The Alumni Association established the Scholarship Foundation in October 1993 and enrolled it as one of more than 800 "Dollars for Scholars" chapters.  The Foundation's fund is now at $310,000.  In 2005 $34,100 in alumni scholarships were awarded to 46 students.  In addition, we also awarded $5000 for the Plotkin music scholarships to under graduates.  The number of scholarships grows each year as alumni establish family and memorial scholarships and because generous alumni contribute to the scholarship general fund.  Various classes holding reunions often donate excess reunion funds for a scholarship, as well.

The alumni scholarships are awarded each June at the Senior Awards Night.  Several of the scholarships honor ERHS teachers including  Howard Swan(for choral music); funded by Richard Cameron W'62 the Michael Harada(English) and Benjamin Friedman(math) awards which are for 4 years; Charles Hamer; Larry Houston; Sonya Most; Gil Espino(athletics); Kathy Bachand(writing); John Rinaldo(instrumental music); and Willie Stupin(social studies).

In addition, several alumni are honored including John D'Orazi S'61; Lynn Holman S'61; Ted Horstman W'38; Peggy Lenney S'47; Martin Modesti S'50; and Don Samuel S'53 with scholarships funded by family, friends or ERHS alumni.

The following are family funded scholarships including the James Beckham Memorial Education Scholarship; The Bua Family Scholarship; Forsyth/Takagaki Scholarship; Bert and Jean Fraleigh scholarships(American Foreign Service and Samuel A. Thomson Memorial); Morreale Family Scholarships; Odell Family Scholarship; Power Family Scholarship; and the Carl I. and Helen Wheat Scholarship.

In 2006 the Foundation will have the honor of awarding The Richard Kratz (W'38) Scholarships to seniors who have been admitted to Occidental College and are strong in math and science.
